  • Send old equipment for recycling on a one-for-one, like-for-like basis (this varies depending on the country)

Instructions to both customers using Zimmer products and recyclers / treatment facilities wishing to obtain disassembly information are provided by following the links below.

Recycling Information for Customers

Please select your country, region, or language below.

Under the Austrian Ordinance on Waste Prevention, Collection and Treatment of Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE Ordinance) that came into force on August 13th 2005, for equipment that you buy from Zimmer after August 13th 2005, Zimmer is required to finance the collection, treatment, recycling and recovery of WEEE that your new purchase replaces, on a one-for-one, like-for-like basis. The old equipment that your new purchase from Zimmer replaces is referred to as Historic WEEE.

Under the WEEE Ordinance, Zimmer is also required to finance the collection, treatment, recycling and recovery of any electrical and electronic equipment that you buy from Zimmer after August 13th 2005 when that equipment eventually becomes waste. This is referred to as New WEEE.

Zimmer is an environmentally responsible company. We have decided to provide WEEE collection and recycling arrangements for all Zimmer electrical and electronic equipment, regardless of when it was purchased and when it became waste.

Our approach to share the new environmental costs are:

  • You pay for transportation of your WEEE to Zimmers’s appointed recycler in Austria
  • Zimmer pays for the costs of treatment, recycling and recovery of the WEEE to meet the targets set by the WEEE Ordinance
  • Zimmer pays for the costs of data management and reporting to the Federal Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, Environment and Water Management to demonstrate compliance with all administrative requirements of the WEEE Ordinance

Zimmer has established a recycling contract with the European Advanced Recycling Network (EARN) and will cover any costs of treatment, recycling and recovery of the equipment on arrival at the EARN facility in Austria . All Historic and New WEEE that arises from the purchase of Zimmer products is classed as non-hazardous waste.

Under Austrian waste management regulations, you are free to use any carrier you wish to collect and transport the Historic and New WEEE to the EARN recycler.

In order to help EARN identify Zimmer equipment upon arrival to the recyclers' address, please click on the link below to download the recycling label to be used. Please complete this label with your company details and attach it to a suitable box for transport to EARN

Customers sending medical electrical and electronic equipment for recycling are advised that all returned items must be certified as clean and free from infectious materials. A complete decontamination must be performed on all equipment suspected of being infected. Failure to carry out decontamination of this equipment will mean the EARN recycling facility in your country will not be able to accept the equipment you send to them for recycling.

Zimmer recommends that customers follow an appropriate local decontamination procedure for equipment suspected of being infected. The Certification of Decontamination should be signed off and attached along with the downloadable recycling label to the outside of the box for transport. Collection and Recycling Arrangements in Cyprus

Zimmer does not have a sales office or approved distributor in Cyprus. Instead, Zimmer products are sold directly to business end-users in Cyprus from the Zimmer office in Switzerland.

Selling products directly to an end-user in another Member State is known as 'distance selling'. The WEEE Directive and Member State WEEE Regulations state that Zimmer is not responsible for WEEE arising from distance sales of business products directly to the business end-user from Zimmer in Switzerland. Instead, it is the business end-user's responsibility to ensure that products which they buy through distance selling arrangements are managed in an environmentally responsible manner at end of life.

    Soveltamamme periaate on seuraava:

Zimmer kuljetusyhteistyökumppani on:

Collection and Recycling Arrangements in Luxembourg

Zimmer does not have a sales office or approved distributor in Luxembourg. Instead, Zimmer products are sold directly to business end-users in Luxembourg from the Zimmer office in Switzerland.

Collection and Recycling Arrangements in the Netherlands

Under the Dutch Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Management Regulations which came into force on January 1st 2005, the financing of collection and recycling of any waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) arising from equipment bought from Zimmer before August 13th 2005 is the customers responsibility. This is regardless of whether the equipment is being replaced by a new piece of equipment from Zimmer. Equipment purchased before August 13th 2005 is referred to as Historic WEEE.

Under the WEEE Management Regulations, Zimmer is required to finance the collection, treatment, recycling and recovery of any new electrical and electronic equipment that you buy from Zimmer after August 13th 2005, when that new equipment eventually becomes waste.

  • You pay for transportation of your WEEE to Zimmers’s appointed recycler in the Netherlands
  • Zimmer pays for the costs of treatment, recycling and recovery of the WEEE to meet the targets set by the WEEE Management Regulations
  • Zimmer pays for the costs of data management and reporting to the Ministry of Spatial Planning, Housing and The Environment (VROM) to demonstrate compliance with all administrative requirements of the WEEE Management Regulations

Zimmer has established a recycling contract with the European Advanced Recycling Network (EARN) and will cover any costs of treatment, recycling and recovery of the equipment on arrival at the EARN facility in the Netherlands.

Collection and Recycling Arrangements in Switzerland

The Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive is a European Directive which requires producers to make arrangements for the collection and recycling of WEEE. The Directive is transposed into national law by EU Member States. Switzerland is not a member of the European Union or of the European Economic Area, and therefore has no obligation to follow EU policy.

Producer responsibility for the take-back of electrical and electronic equipment in Switzerland is covered by the Ordinance on the Return, Take-back and Disposal of Electrical and Electronic Equipment (ORDEE). The Ordinance came into force on July 1st 1998 and an amendment came into force in January 2005 which extended the scope of the Ordinance to increase the number of categories of electrical and electronic equipment which are covered.

The requirements of ORDEE are different from the requirements of the WEEE Directive. In particular, the categories of equipment which are covered by ORDEE do not include any of the types of equipment produced by Zimmer. ORDEE does not place any requirements on Zimmer, or any dealers of Zimmer products, to provide collection and recycling of waste electrical and electronic equipment in Switzerland.

Collection and Recycling Arrangements in the United Kingdom

Under the proposed UK Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Regulations, for equipment that you buy from Zimmer after August 2005, Zimmer is required to provide arrangements for the collection, treatment, recycling and recovery of WEEE that your new purchase replaces, on a one-for-one, like-for-like basis. The old equipment that your new purchase from Zimmer replaces is referred to as Historic WEEE.

Under the UK WEEE Regulations, Zimmer is also required to provide arrangements for the collection, treatment, recycling and recovery of any new electrical and electronic equipment that you buy from them after August 2005, when that new equipment eventually becomes waste. This is referred to as New WEEE.

Zimmer is required to provide these arrangements starting from 1 April 2007.

Zimmer is an environmentally responsible company. We have decided to provide WEEE collection and recycling arrangements for all Zimmer electrical and electronic equipment, regardless of when it was purchased and when it became waste.

Our approach to share the new environmental costs are:

  • You pay for transportation of your WEEE to Zimmers’s appointed recycler in the UK
